It is so difficult to lose a child, but I can't imagine the heartache the families feel in this case.
There may be other tributes like this on YouTube already, but this one is very well done. A friend of mine is in the band that recorded the song. There is a link on the YouTube page to purchase the song on iTunes. All proceeds are being donated so please help support the families. This morning there was a moment of silence and rolling of twenty six bells for those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary one week ago. ABC did a very nice photo montage with pictures of each victim while the tolling bells were broadcast live.
As I looked at the pictures I was struck by how happy all of the children looked. Some were at the beah or on playgrounds, but each and every one had smiles on their faces. What angers me most is that their families and the world have been denied their presence. The smiles will live on in the pictures and remembrances, but what about all of the potential that those kids had? One of them could have discovered a cure for cancer or been the first person to step foot on Mars. They undoubtedly would have one day had family and children of their own. I return to what I said earlier in the week. The victims here are not just those killed but so many more who have lost something as well as a grieving nation which I fear may have lost what little innocence we had left. I had set a goal to have 7500 page views by the end of the year and in the last two days I have reached that goal.
I truly hope that I have made it worth your while to stop by this page among the millions (billions?) on the internet and that you continue to come back again and again looking for new content. Thanks again! Photo Credit: Tiffany Szerpicki via sxc.hu Folks in all corners of the world and the internet are sending out prayers for the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. As someone with children of my own I can't imagine sending them off to school in the morning and never seeing them again so my prayers go out to the families affected by the tragedy. As someone who has lost a child (albeit in a much different fashion) I do know some of what the families of those killed are going through but nothing will ever make it easier for them. The one thing I haven't heard many talk about yet is the children that survived the attack last Friday. Not only did some of them have their teachers killed in front of them, but I'm sure every child who attends that school lost many of their friends. The last thing that really concerns me is the regularity with which these types of attacks are happening these days. I forget who told me this, but around the time of the shooting in Colorado over the summer, there were news reports that it was the worst mass shooting in several months. A list of rampage killers on Wikipedia lists three such incidents in 2011, four in 2009, and three in 2008. There are already two on the list for 2012 and Sandy Hook makes a third. Simply the fact that there is enough incidents like this to make a substantial list on Wikipedia is alarming in itself. Today is a week before Christmas. Please be thankful for your families and your children. I know I will be very thankful to have my kids in my arms this holiday season. He invites people around the world to meet up and share 140 seconds of what they are working on in their art. I've already signed up to attend the one in Rochester on January 2nd once the location is figured out. Check out the site and if you have something worth putting out to the world, find your nearest meeting place and join in "making a ruckus." Let's try to change the world! Thank you to everyone who donated money through the Indiegogo fundraising campaign. I am truly blessed to have such support. If you didn't get a chance to donate, please feel free to donate through the paypal link at the right or on the main home page. That's it for now, more poetry and another snippet of "Touch" coming this week so be on the lookout! Image Credit: Raja R via sxc.hu I'm trying to think of new and different muses. It's tough always trying to be original. With the millions of writers out there in the world, how do I keep my self original and differentiate my writing from everyone else? What topics have you always wanted to read about but can never find writing on? |
