I had set a goal for myself this year. I happened to do it at New Year's, but it was not a resolution mind you. It was a goal. The goal was to read at least one book per month through the entire year. We've just moved into month number seven, and I'm happy to report that I'm on my seventh book of the year. Suzanne Collins's books were number 2, 3, and 5 on my list so far.
You might be asking yourself, "self, why would he only want to read one book per month?" And you'd be asking yourself a very appropriate question. But let me remind you. I have two kids at home and a full time job. I don't have all day to sit around and read. So I get a few minutes on my lunch break some days, a few minutes lying in bed before I fall asleep and if I'm really into a book (ahem...Mockingjay) I might be forced to stay up until 2:00 in the morning to finish it.
I set the goal of one book per month full well knowing that I have limited time to actually spend reading things that I want to read. If I had set a goal of one book per week, I'd be about 20 weeks behind by now and would be thoroughly discouraged. But by actually getting through six books in six months, I feel encouraged and feel like I've accomplished something.
I'm not going to give any kind of spoilers for the books I'm reading, but I think I am going to occasionally post about the book(s) that I'm reading on here. Hopefully it will give you some insight as to where my inspiration for my own writing comes from.
